International Raceway – World Cup Finals Update
It was a long
day for those who attended the World Cup
Finals on Sunday. Sean Glazar and the
Extreme Motorsports Talon ran strong setting
two new mph records. The Extreme Talon was a
sure crowd pleaser on as the car flew down
the track running 167.93 mph! We now hold
the fastest 1/8 mph and ¼ mph speed records.
Our previous best trap speeds were 164.99
(September 04’) and 163.74 (June 04’). For
all the updates go to the “Timeslips”
section at the bottom of this page.
The Extreme
Talon, A Part Of History
The Extreme
Motorsports AWD Talon held the fastest ET
record for almost three years without
running before someone went faster. Our
world record setting time back in 2001 was
8.87 in the ¼ mile at Maple Grove Speedway,
PA. There was no doubt that we had the best
and fastest combination out there. After the
2001 racing season we decided to put the
Talon under cover as we had another project
car on the way.
The 2002
season became a year of trial and error as
the new car was completed later than
expected and still required hundreds of
hours before it could finally run.
Unfortunately, during this time we had a
driveline failure towards the end of the
season leaving us no choice but to wait
until the following year to race the tube
chassis. During the off-season, we spent
many hours working on the car and again, the
tube chassis was still not ready to run. But
finally, towards the middle of the season we
began to attend events. While running the
Scoupe, the Talon was being repainted and
refinished for the possibility of a two-car
team for 2004. With an unfortunate accident
in August 2003 the Hyundai Scoupe tube
chassis rear wheel drive was totaled. This
disastrous blow set us back but gave us a
whole new outlook on racing.
Fortunately,
during this time, the Talon was already on
the road to recovery from the fuel rail fire
in Texas (2001), which did substantial
damage to the front portion of the car. We
knew that in order for the car to be reborn,
it would have to undergo some surgery. So,
we decided to have the bare chassis alkaline
dipped and freshly painted to start the
process. Sean knew that there was a great
deal of work ahead to get the Talon back in
running order. It was a big nut to crack so
late in the year but he was bound and
determined the make the last two local races
of the season.
For the first
half of the year we kept chasing down small
and sometime crippling problems that we had
to overcome. With the new dynamic engine
combination engineered by Sean Glazar, we
anticipated some good numbers. In a recent
interview Sean was asked about his engine
combination and this is what he said. Sean
replied, “This engine is totally new,
nothing related to our previous setup. New
head. New machining on the block. New cams.
New rods. New pistons. All that I can say is
that it blows the other one out of the
water. On the very first dyno run it made
over 150hp more at 5psi less boost,
un-tuned.” We knew that 2004 would be a year
of tracking down the beast.
So far this
year we have attended over 14 local and out
of state race events. Sean Glazar placed 5th
overall for the NDRA racing circuit and took
a first place win in St. Louis, MO. It was a
well needed and deserved win for Sean and
the Extreme Motorsports Team after having
such a bad prior year with the tube chassis
accident. We even traveled down to Florida
during the first hurricane that destroyed
several towns across the state leaving the
Moroso Raceway saturated from the heavy rain
showers. The storm lingered around long
enough to call off any possibility of
finishing the event. So, we had to return
back to Maryland in preparation for the next
race. Our number one goal throughout this
year was to remain dedicated and stay on
track with our race program.
Currently, we
are still testing the car on setup
drivability as it is making so much power
down the track. Our fastest time this year
was 8.82 at 164.99 mph. At MIR (Maryland
International Raceway) in November 2004 we
set two new mph records for the 1/8-mile at
131.68 and ¼ mile at 167.93. By far, the
Extreme Talon is one of the most memorable
and exciting cars that you will ever see at
the track. The Talon weights 2500lbs, while
the FWD's have to weigh only 1800lbs. 700
pounds equates to 5600 candy bars or 90
gallons of water or 930 cans of soda - so
needless to say it weighs a lot.
