So what is the
deal with the Hyundai Scoupe body? According to
Sean Glazar, "I had an opportunity to purchase a
rolling chassis of which included the body,
molds for the body, suspension, and wheels and
tires. The best part is that Hyundai also uses a
version of the 4G63 in some of their vehicles so
we were able to use our proven engine
combination and still meet the rules and
regulations for all sanctioning bodies."
Over the course
of two years there has been a lot of in house
testing and complications. One aspect that makes
it very difficult is that the car is essentially
a "one off" and everything needs to be
fabricated. While the Talon was routine to run
and maintain, this car has unleashed a whole new
world of challenges. Close to 2000 hours were
spent testing and machining new parts as they
were needed for the tube chassis racecar. The
Extreme Hyundai attended several races this year
even though Sean knew that the car was down on
power. Getting seat time was Sean's main goal
since this car was so different than the AWD
Talon. As for the chassis setup, the car couldn't
have been better - it drove straight and nothing
but straight.
Unfortunately,
due to an
accident in early August 2003, the tube
chassis will not be ready to run until the 2004
season, but the
Talon is already rebuilt and ready for
action..
NOPI Race Wars
at Maple Grove, PA UPDATE...
After several
weeks of recovery for Sean as he sustained
injury to his back and legs, the cause for the
crash has been determined. A trail of gear oil
from a previous car was found in the shutdown
area of the track. Unfortunately, the oil slick
made the car pitch sideways that led to the
crash.
